What to look for as we enter the second half of 2025…

Trends in design often reflect what is happening in our culture and we most certainly have been experiencing a continued shift towards clean design. This includes simple lines and calming colors that are easy on the eyes. Consciously and subconsciously, we are yearning for a safe refuge from our busy lives and the world around us.

In kitchens, hood shapes are trending towards straight lines and squared off shapes, as well as simple door styles (yes the shaker!) and unadorned moldings. Is brass going out? That is the most common question I have been receiving in the recent weeks and what I can suggest - brass is evolving. There are a variety of “warm” toned finishes available for hardware and fixtures if you are looking for a finish to compliment your cabinetry. Unlacquered brass, bronze, antique brass, heritage brass and burnished antique are a few to mention. The bright “yellowy” tones are out with a shift towards muted brass.

Lastly, I do want to mention I see an increasing trend towards moody spaces. We have been seeing this in basements and bars for quite some time and now it’s spreading to other rooms in the home including kitchens and/or butler’s pantries. Darker tones can be grounding and add an element of intrigue. Moody spaces send calming vibes and a departure from the sterile white spaces that had overtaken the design world for a couple decades that we are beginning to finally tire of.
