Kitchen Designers are Different than Interior Designers

House Beautiful has an excellent article in their October issue titled “Open House : Kitchen Edition.” Several Kitchen Designers are interviewed regarding their experience specializing in kitchen design and how this specialty of design compares to interior designer.

With 19 years experience in the business there has been a wealth of knowledge that I have gained while working on the job with a variety of tradespeople and experienced designers. In kitchen design, we need to be creative (of course!), however there is an element of structure and highly attention to detail required for the job. We are required to become accustomed to detailing out cabinetry to the 1/16” of an inch, a thorough understanding of appliances and their spec requirements, as well as staying abreast of the current technology trends and much more. We must be proficient in CAD technology and imaging to relay the details of the space to our clients. Kitchen Design is a unique design specialty that differs from interior design.
